Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient form of Japanese acupressure believed to be the foundation for meridian theory. Jin Shin Jyutsu translates as the art of the creator in the person of compassion.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is a blossoming form of complimentary therapy, stemming from a time-honored healing art. This art is based upon our innate ability to harmonize ourselves through touch. This awareness diminished until it fell into obscurity. In the 1900’s a Japanese scholar, Jiro Murai, brought about a reawakening of Jin Shin Jyutsu and trained students in this art. Mary Burmeister, a Japanese-American woman, studied with Jiro Murai and brought this art of Jin Shin Jyutsu to¬†America.

Jin Shin Jyutsu stimulates the movement of Chi, our vital energy. In Jin Shin Jyutsu this vital energy flows through 52 safety energy locks (SELS), 26 on each side of the body. These SELS are located on circulation flows, similar to meridians. These energy pathways feed life energy into all cells. When one or more of the pathways becomes blocked, the effect can lead to pain, discomfort, illness and disease. Please see the diagram for locations of these points.

During a session the receiver remains fully clothed and usually lies on a massage table. The practitioner will apply their fingertips on safety energy locks in a sequence known as flows. A session will begin with the practitioner listening to the pulse and using this information to choose flows to restore harmony.

The effectiveness of a treatment is heightened by the practitioners ability to bring unimpeded healing intention while following established procedures.

As a complimentary art, Jin Shin Jyutsu easily supports any medical treatment. Jin Shin Jyutsu is suited for all ages and health conditions because of its non-invasive techniques, allowing this service to be extended to a broad population. Jin Shin Jyutsu places an emphasis on teaching self-help skills to receivers for home use to strengthen and revitalize their bodies. By using self-help techniques, you are invited to come in to relationship with yourself. Your are asked to be an active participant in maintaining your health. Sessions and self help skills can awaken awareness of help and change a person may need.
